1. Intramurals and athletic programs provide great exercise.
While most students would like to go outside to play sports with friends on a regular basis, few actually do. With a predetermined time already in your schedule, your involvement is more likely to happen.
2. They are an amazing stress reliever.
Stressed about an upcoming test? Paper or project? Your computer that just can't seem to print? Participating in sports with a bunch of friends can do wonders for reducing your stress level.
3. The programs are a great way to meet people.
You may be getting used to seeing similar people in the halls, classrooms, or at the events you go to at school. Intramurals and athletics can be a great way to meet students that you may not otherwise see at school.
4. Athletics provide leadership opportunities.
Every team needs a leader, right? If you're looking to build your leadership skills, teams can be a great place to start.
5. They're one of the few things you'll do just for fun.
Most things you'll do in school are very goal directed: produce a paper, plan an event, meet a deadline. Playing a sport provides you with a great opportunity to head out and have some good, old-fashioned fun.
