Debra Segiet

Welcome to Mrs. Segiet's Creative Tech and Project Lead the Way webpage.

This is a fun and exciting time for technology at Churchville and the other district middle schools as we enter year 4 of our 1:1 initiative.  The Computer Literacy curriculum has been updated so we changed our name to match what the students are learning. We will now be named Creative Technology across the three middle schools. We have added more Stem practices in our 6th - 8th grade curriculum this year.  These include opportunities to build computers along with expanding our coding curriculum to include line coding languages such as Python and HTML.  Out 8th grade classes are also a semester long.  I am honored and excited to take this journey with the students in the Creative Technology classes.  Linking technology with real world examples will teach students skills such as creativity and innovation, collaboration, digital communication, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making allowing them to become model digital citizens and ready for their futures!

I also have had the great opportunity to teach Project Lead the Way - Computer Science for Innovators and Makers to 6th grade.  Computer Science for Innovators and Makers teaches students that programming goes beyond the virtual world into the physical world. Students are challenged to creatively use sensors and actuators to develop systems that interact with their environment. Designing algorithms and using computational thinking practices, they code and upload programs to microcontrollers that perform a variety of authentic tasks. The unit broadens students’ understanding of computer science concepts through meaningful applications. Teams select and solve a personally relevant problem related to wearable technology, interactive art, or mechanical devices.
