York HS

Seven students from York Community High School have been named Finalists in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program, placing them among the top high school scholars in the nation.

The designation comes after the National Merit Scholarship Corporation reviewed the academic records of approximately 16,000 Semifinalists nationwide. More than 95 percent advanced to Finalist standing, earning consideration for National Merit Scholarship awards to be announced later this spring and summer.

York’s 2026 National Merit Finalists are:
Gabriel T. Boutin
Liam F. Fahey
Caroline C. Hammond
John Kattoor
Colin J. Mahoney
Anand V. Peel
Alexander G. Sjullie

Finalists are selected based on a comprehensive review process that includes academic performance throughout high school, SAT or ACT scores confirming PSAT/NMSQT performance, and additional information submitted through the National Merit application.

As Finalists, the York students will be considered for roughly 6,870 National Merit Scholarships to be awarded in 2026. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation will begin notifying scholarship recipients in March, with public announcements released between April and July.

While the organization does not publicly announce Finalists at the national level, York Community High School is recognizing the students’ achievements locally in celebration of their academic excellence.

The National Merit Scholarship Program is one of the most prestigious academic competitions for high school students in the United States, honoring those who demonstrate exceptional scholarship, dedication, and achievement.
